SEMINAR 2: A transdisciplinary approach to implementation.

This three-part series aims to help researchers develop an understanding of implementation science in practice. Each seminar has a theoretical component plus practical examples from a clinician researcher.

A panel session moderated by the Chair, Professor Harriet Hiscock (Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Royal Children's Hospital, University of Melbourne) will allow for an interactive discussion.

The series will be recorded and available on the MACH website.

Keynote speaker: Professor Gabriele Bammer

“Integration and Implementation Sciences (i2S), transdisciplinarity and implementation”

Gabriele is developing the new discipline of Integration and Implementation Sciences (i2S) to improve research strengths for tackling complex real-world problems. She looks at applications in population health, in environment and in security. She is a professor at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health in the Research School of Population Health at The Australian National University. She curates the popular Integration and Implementation Insights blog (http://i2Insights.org).

Clinician Researcher: Dr Justin Nazareth

"Austin Health Perioperative Medicine Service and Perioperative Care Team - Reflections in the context of i2S"

Justin is a Staff Specialist and Joint Head of Perioperative Medicine in the Department of Anaesthesia at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne. Each year approximately 15000 patients undergo surgical procedures at Austin Health and the journey from referral to discharge can often be complex. In 2017 Austin Health began a process of continuous improvement within this pathway, cementing the role of the Perioperative Medicine Service and developing the Perioperative Care Team with the view to improving patient- and health service-centred outcomes. Justin will reflect on this process in the context of i2S in conversation with Gabriele.
