Love Letters Live
Comedian Nina Oyama joins State Library Victoria this Valentine's Day for an evening of longing and laughter.
A handmade card to your primary school crush. An angsty diary entry. A risky double text. Love letters – in all forms – have long helped us express what’s hard to say out loud.
This Valentine's Day, join us for Love Letters Live, when we turn the private into the public – inviting audiences to witness the beauty and messiness of love.
Presented as part of our Rebel Heart program series and hosted by comedian Nina Oyama (Utopia, Deadloch, Taskmaster Australia), this intimate event brings together some of Australia’s most beloved comics and personalities such as Alistair Baldwin (The Weekly, Hard Quiz, Thank God You’re Here), Dr. Esmé Louise James (Kinky History), Lawrence Leung (Lawrence Leung’s Unbelievable and Choose Your Own Adventure), Mel O’Brien (FANGIRLS, Mel & Sam) and Sez (comedian, musician, writer, currently on tour with Sorry, What?) to read their own love letters aloud – baring all for an evening of longing and laughter.
Funny, poetic, raw and deeply human, their courageous confessions will blend standup, theatre and uninhibited storytelling in this playful and personal ode to expressions of the heart.
Rebel Heart: Love letters and other declarations will be open to guests before the event (from 6.15pm) and during the interval.
