Former Australian Prime Minister, The Hon. Kevin Rudd AC will be presenting his latest book, The Avoidable War.

The University of Newcastle’s Asia Pacific Research Centre, together with the Newcastle Institute, proudly invite you to attend a special public lecture and conversation with: The Honourable Kevin Rudd AC, 26th Prime Minister of AustraliaDate: Tuesday 22 November 2022Time: 1pm for a 1:30pm start, book signing and canapes to follow from 2:45pm Location: Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, University of Newcastle, Corner Laman Street, Auckland St, Newcastle. In the inaugural Asia Pacific Centre-Newcastle Institute Lecture, Dr Rudd will explore themes from his latest book, The Avoidable War: The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict between the US and Xi Jinping&#x27;s China. Dr Rudd will analyse the factors that lie beneath the volatile relationship between China and the United States and its allies, including Australia, and discuss ways these tensions can be controlled without spiralling into crisis, confrontation and conflict.Dr Rudd served as Australia&#x27;s twenty-sixth prime minister from 2007 to 2010 and then as its foreign minister from 2010 to 2012, before returning as prime minister in 2013. He is the global president and CEO of Asia Society and has been president of the Asia Society Policy Institute since January 2015. Dr Rudd graduated from the Australian National University with honours in Chinese studies and is fluent in Mandarin. He also studied at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.We hope you can join us for this special occasion.
