I’m not talking about money or Jobkeeper. It’s more like the recognition. If they could just say “Hey, thank you international students for still being here, not cancelling your courses…"
What is LIMBO? Ordinarily, it's an uncertain period of awaiting a decision or resolution; an intermediate state or condition. 2020 has not been an ordinary year, and for international students hailing from Tanzania to Thailand, Bangladesh to Brazil and China to Colombia, limbo has also meant:
- Cancelled plans
- Rediscovering lost passion
- Questioning purpose
- Locked down in love
- Overwhelming isolation
- Reaching out to others
- Feeling unwanted in a country you’ve chosen to call home.
- Getting to know yourself a little bit better
Fun, humorous, and emotional, LIMBO gives our participants the chance to share previously untold experiences and raw feelings through gestures and objects in their homes. Watch as they stick notes, throw socks, search for jobs, cook roti, make songs, read, stare, sleep, jump and hide as they attempt to keep their balance in this turbulent year 2020.
We invite you to join us for the LIMBO film premiere, a FREE interactive event hosted on Zoom* and live-streamed on Facebook**. Take the opportunity to speak to the film’s diverse participants (from Vietnam, America, Indonesia, Tuvalu and India just to name a few countries). Experience a bit of the film yourself as Catherine Simmonds leads everyone through some interactive activities.
*Places are limited.
**Zoom livestream will be streamed on Facebook.
The agenda of this event will be:
- A short introduction
- Film screening
- A 25-minute Q&A session with the participants
- A 15-minute activity session
LIMBO is directed by renowned OAM artistic director Catherine Simmonds (award-winning (2018 Multicultural Award for Excellence) Act of Translation, Be You Be Scene) in collaboration with filmmaker Irene Metter (Act of Translation).
