MORE ABOUT EDWINA SHAW
Edwina Shaw is a Brisbane writer of fiction, memoir and screenplays with strong links to Far North QLD. Her father’s family lived in Innisfail for generations. She runs writing retreats for women every winter in NQld and SEQld.
Her novel,Thrill Seekers,based on her brother’s battle with adolescent onset schizophrenia, was shortlisted for theNSW Premier’s Award for New Writingand was recently released as a new imprint by Raven Books UK.In the Dark of Night(Ransom UK), her chapter book for young readers, was selected for the 2016/17National Library Summer Reading Club.
Since 2002, her short pieces have been published in Australian and international journals, includingBest Australian Stories, Griffith ReviewandAsia Literary Review.Her feature film screenplayMwas awarded 2018 Talent Development funding from Screen Queensland and is currently under development. Edwine, who holds a Masters in Creative Writing, teaches creative writing at the University of QLD, for the QLD Writers Centre, at Lotus Place and in the community.
Edwina Shaw is also the commissioning editor of Bjelke Blues – Stories of Repression and Resistance in Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s QLD 1968 – 1987. This new collection of 45 essays, memoirs and fiction comes from people on the wrong side of the regime 30 years ago. Many are prominent authors today, including Nick Earls, Sam Watson, Matthew Condon, Bob Weatherall, Miles Franklin winner Melissa Lucashenko, and more. Join Edwina and two of the local contributors to this gripping collection, Christine Howes and Chris Morris, for an authors’ talk and morning tea.
