Life Drawing Masterclass
Master proportion, gesture, anatomy and drawing from a live model in this three-day life drawing intensive. Materials included.
Life Drawing Masterclass: Three-Day Intensive with Mike Armstrong
15–17 April 2026, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Lyneham, Canberra
Course Description
Life drawing is the foundation of all observational art — a discipline that sharpens perception, deepens concentration, and trains the eye to see with clarity. Over three immersive days, this intensive workshop will guide you through the essential skills required to draw the human form with confidence and sensitivity.
Working from a live model, you will learn observational frameworks, proportion systems, gestural drawing techniques, and foundational anatomy. We will explore how to judge scale, measure key landmarks, and understand the underlying structure that gives a figure rhythm and balance. You will practice quick gestural sketches, sustained studies, and targeted exercises for drawing hands, feet, and the face.
Through demonstrations and personalised guidance, you’ll discover how light, line, and form reveal movement and character. The workshop is designed to build your skills progressively, giving you the techniques you need to begin or strengthen a sustainable life-drawing practice.
All materials and model fees are included, and each participant will receive a comprehensive handbook covering course content and techniques demonstrated. By the end of the three days, you will have a solid foundation in drawing the figure from observation and the confidence to continue your artistic journey independently.
The course will be held in Mike’s beautiful studio on Northbourne Avenue, Lyneham.
