About this event

Wombat Housing Support Services and the Zoe Belle Gender Collective are providing free training to care and protection services as part of the LGBTI Project funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (West Metro).

This training session will cover the basics of LGBTI best practice, and is suitable for anyone working in child protection, placement, foster care, kinship care, residential care services and other out of home care roles. The topics covered include:

  • The principals of inclusive practice
  • Understanding LGBTIQA+ identities and terminology
  • The experiences of LGBTIQA+ people and discrimination, and;
  • Supporting young people and their families

Attendees will also be provided with links to resources to support their practice.

This is an online training session that will run from 10am to 3pm with one hour break for lunch.

As a follow up to these "101" sessions, will be offering further "102" training sessions that will cover more advanced practice and information specific to the care and protection sector. These dates will be available soon.
