Level 2: Characters (July class)

Improv QLD was founded in 2004 with the goal of spreading and celebrating the joy of improvised performance and unscripted theatre. From our humble beginnings on pub stages under the banner of ImproMafia, we've grown to become Brisbane’s best-known improvisation company, performing locally and internationally, participating in major festivals, and providing world-class training.

ImproMafia is excited to launch its revamped Level 2 workshop, Characters! Characters are the heart of improvisation. Engaging characters draw the audience into a scene and make them want to watch more. A character can also be a powerful way of connecting with other performers and finding your inspiration. And yet, as improvisors, we often end up playing ourselves on stage. This class will teach you tried and tested techniques for creating characters for improvisation stage. You will begin to explore how to transform your body and voice on the stage, and challenge your physical and vocal habits. You will practice creating powerful, memorable characters perfect for both fun, comedic shows and more dramatic work.Themes and skills to be explored include:

Exploring your physicality & voice

Expert High and Low Status

Motivations & Objectives

Relationships

Mantras

Your workshop teacher is Tom Dunstan. It is pre-requisite that you have completed a beginner improvisation course (such as our Level 1 class).
