Please Note: This session is exclusively for Apple iPhone and iPad users. We'll be focusing on recent Apple software (iOS 17 and iOS 18). To ensure you get the most out of the workshop, please arrive 15-20 minutes early to connect to our Library Wi-Fi with your free library membership. A PDF of session notes will be provided.

This friendly, beginner-oriented session focuses on simple ways for older adults to stay connected with family and friends using their Apple devices—iPhones and iPads. Building on the previous topic, it explores popular apps and methods for messaging, video calls, and audio calls over the internet.  

You'll learn easy-to-use tools to help you communicate confidently, whether you're calling loved ones locally or across the globe.

  • How to send text messages and photos using Apple’s iMessage and other popular apps

  • How to set up and make video calls using FaceTime and other video chat apps available on Apple devices 

Audio Calling  

  • Making voice calls over the internet using FaceTime and messaging apps

  • How to install, set up, and manage multiple communication apps with ease 
  • Tips for maintaining privacy and security while chatting online 

Troubleshooting Common Issues  

  • Basic solutions for connectivity problems and app crashes during calls.

No, you do not need a library membership to attend this event. However, having a library membership to connect to the library Wi-Fi before the session will ensure you are able to follow the session more easily. You can sign up for a membership at the library front desk prior to the session.

Do I need to bring my own device to this session?

Yes, please bring your own iPhone or iPad (that can run iOS 17 or above) to this session. Devices will not be provided on the day.

What time do I need to arrive at the session?

Please arrive at the session 15-20 minutes early to ensure that you have connected to our Library Wi-Fi with your free library membership.
