Tuesday, Jul 28, 2026 from 9:30 am to 12 pm
Overview

Free skills training to support not-for-profit groups, community organisations, committees and residents in the City of Yarra.

Legal Issues in Managing a Diverse Volunteer Team

In this session, you’ll learn to use the law to support diversity in your volunteer team.

As lawyers, we see some tricky issues arise around discrimination, safety, screening and privacy law when organisations seek to embed diversity in their volunteer recruitment plan. This practical workshop introduces those issues and then unpacks them using case studies to embed the learning.

Participants practise identifying the relevant areas of law, then weighing up different considerations and finding solutions to help confidently build and grow a diverse, inclusive and strong volunteer workforce.

You'll learn about:

  • Overview of discrimination laws, safety, screening checks, and privacy law
  • Case studies to guide discussion on diversity and the law
  • Practical tips on balancing your legal obligations to make volunteering more inclusive
  • Top tips and additional resources for the future

Who should attend?

Volunteer managers and staff who engage with volunteers based in the City of Yarra or those interested in starting a volunteer program.

PLEASE NOTE: Organisations/groups/individuals based in the City of Yarra or that service Yarra's community will be prioritised.

This workshop is free, however bookings are essential.
