About this event

Using sunlight to power the planet

At our next virtual Learn@Lunch, chemical engineer and 2019 NSW Scientist of the Year, Scientia Professor Rose Amal AC, will explore the great challenge that is finding a reliable, affordable, and sustainable way to store and later distribute, excess solar energy.

Recognised as a pioneer and leading authority in the field of photocatalysis, Professor Amal has made significant contributions to this area of research over the past 15 years. Her work at UNSW has seen her convert solar energy into hydrogen which can be stored for long periods of time and later used as a source of fuel. Professor Amal’s accolades acknowledge her important developments in treating water, purifying the air, and generating renewable hydrogen, aiming to improve our environment – now and into the future.

Join Professor Amal as she walks us through her research findings and discusses what it will take for the globe to harness solar energy to sustainably power the planet.
