Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered how words and pictures get into a book? How long does it take to make a book for young readers? How hard (or easy) can it be?

While the six award-winning books showcased in the Learning from Country exhibition are non-fiction, they were written, illustrated, designed and produced in the same way as a picture storybook. Yet in regard to some of them, writer Nadia Wheatley and artist/designer Ken Searle worked in collaboration with children and teachers, either at the Aboriginal community of Papunya in the Western Desert or in the culturally diverse schools of south-western Sydney.

This is an opportunity to see drafts, roughs and finished artwork from the books and hear a fascinating discussion of their production process. Whether you enjoy reading illustrated books with your students or children, or whether you fancy a career as an author or illustrator, this conversation between Nadia Wheatley and Ken Searle and their publisher, Erica Wagner, will answer some of your questions, and possibly raise even more.
