Week 3 (May 2) Making up your vest ready to wear or blanket to keep warm

In this last workshop, Terri will show you three different ways to join your 'granny squares' into your vest so you to decide which method you'd like to use. She'll also show you how to edge the vest...

About this event

In this workshop with Terri Walker, you'll not only learn how to do the major crochet stitches but how to read the different types of crochet patterns and follow a pattern to make a cute 'granny square' vest.

The first two workshops take you through the basics to get you started, then we'll have a few weeks in between where you'll be working on your garment at home but supported with optional drop-in sessions for you to get further support from Terri.

Once you've made your squares, in the final workshop we'll show you how to make-up your garment into the finished vest or a simple 'granny' sqare' rug.

By the end of this workshop you'll not only have the skills to crochet but be confident to start your own crochet projects!

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners (of any age over 12) or for people who already know how to do the basic stitches but want to know how to read a pattern and complete a wearable crocheted project.

If you already know how to do the basic crochet stitches you may decide to join the series in Week 2 or if you only want to learn the stitches, you can just join us for Week 1 - it's your choice.

For children under 12, we recommend that an adult accompany them to the workshop.

For left-handers, we have a special Learn to Crochet for left-handers workshop and a left-handed crochet project series with Trish.

What do I need to bring?

For the first workshop you don't need to bring anything we'll supply all your needs but if you do have a 4-4.5mm crochet hook and an odd ball of 8ply wool you'd like to use that would be great to bring along, as you can then keep practicing what you started at home.

Terri will advise you in the first workshop what to bring to Week 2 to suit the size of the vest you would like to make. (Please contact us before Week 2 if you are starting in that week, to understand what to bring.)

The ReDress Hub has odd balls of wool you can also purchase, but otherwise, we recommend doing a charity shop crawl for your materials as you will almost certainly find what you need without buying them new.

How do I book?

You can complete this workshop as an entire series, just do Week 1 to learn the basic stitches or if you know the basic stitches, you can join from Week 2 - your choice.

To complete the entire series select the Week 1 start date and choose the Workshop Series ticket (adult or concession).

To complete a single workshop OR start from Week 2 of the series, choose the date(s) of the workshop(s) you'd like to complete and choose the Single Workshop ticket (adult or concession).

If you need additional help throughout the series, we can organise this on an individual basis with Terri for an additional charge of $25/hour.

Group bookings:

The workshops at The ReDress Hub are perfect for group bookings - sharing these experiences with a group of friends, family or colleagues can not only create memorable occasions but are also perfect for sharing laughs, ideas and resources between you.

If you bring a group of 5+ people we'll not only offer you a group discount, but organise some special treats for you all to enjoy. Please contact us directly for more details.

We hope to see you at The ReDress Hub soon!

Terri Walker is retired now, but spent her life working as a Speech Pathologist. Her real passion however was for all things craft. Terri taught herself to knit when she was at University and produced many patterned jumpers in the 80s.

In the 90s when her children came along, Terri branched out into all things sewing and quilting.

She joined a local craft group in the little town of Gympie, Queensland where the family were living at the time.

Following a move to Brisbane, Terri got back into knitting and decided to develop her crochet skills. She had been taught some crochet stitches by her Mother when she was younger, but could never work out how to follow a pattern. With steely determination, she decided that she would teach herself to read crochet patterns and this has opened up a whole new world of craft projects for her.

Terri is hoping that she will be able to share this ability to crochet and read crochet patterns with other keen crafters around Launceston. She hopes to see your smiling faces at these upcoming workshops.
