Learn how to Write and Publish a Children’s Picture Book
Overview
Write and Publish Your Own Children’s Picture Book!
Ever dreamed of creating a story that sparks imagination? Join award-winning author Denise Makeham for a two-session workshop where you’ll learn how to write, illustrate, and publish your very own children’s picture book.
About Denise
Denise Makeham is an award winning children’s author from rural New South Wales. Inspired by the rhythms of the land and family life, she crafts stories that encourage kids to rediscover adventure beyond screens. With four published picture books celebrating curiosity and connection, Denise brings her passion for storytelling, education and creativity to every workshop.
What You’ll Learn
Session 1
Denise will guide you to identify a story idea, and make a story board – your own idea, or a prompt from Denise. You will consider your audience. Is it for your child, your grandchild, or do you wish to make your story available to others? Denise will support you to think about the content. Will it be written in rhyme, or prose? You will learn the tips and tricks of writing good rhyme. Decisions like how big will your book be? What type of illustrations (water colour, nostalgic, modern?)
Session Two
You will continue to work on the text of your story and Denise will outline your self-publishing options. This will include how to find an illustrator, and how to have your final book printed and published. And the all important skill of marketing.
