Learn Chalk Lettering
Sun. 16 October 2016, 10:30 am – 1:30 pm ACDT
What you’ll learn:
In this fun workshop graphic designer and letterer Jessica Matthews will teach students how to create gorgeous hand lettered chalkboard art, providing insight into the process she uses to create bespoke hand lettered pieces for cafe menu boards and weddings. An informal and creative workshop aimed at those who’ve never tried hand lettering, and those who have and may want to try something new, Learn Chalk Lettering is designed to teach you the fundamentals to enable you to create unique, perfectly imperfect chalkboard art pieces with various lettering styles.
You will learn the basics of hand lettering starting with pencil and paper, as well as specific chalk lettering techniques as you progress through the workshop. The key principles of lettering will be covered; such as proportion, rhythm, balance, creating ligatures, flourishes and decorative elements, alternate letterforms, and how to fit words and phrases together to create beautiful compositions. We’ll begin with pencil and paper before moving onto the chalkboards provided.
After you’ve mastered the basics of lettering you will get the chance to create your very own hand lettered piece on a chalkboard you can take home with you; featuring a chosen quote, phrase or lyric, with personal tutoring and guidance from Jessica.
What is supplied:
Workshop participants will receive everything they’ll need including; chalkboard, paper, tracing paper, ruler, eraser, sharpener, pencils and chalk. You’ll be able to take this kit home with you to continue practicing your amazing chalk lettering work and post your creations all over instagram.
