LMW comprises some 30 players, primarily of wind instruments and a percussion section. The aims of the band are to provide entertainment for the community, to promote music in the area, and to encourage participation in music.

The band plays a wide range of music from standard concert band repertoire to jazz; medleys from stage shows, movies and gaming themes; medleys from artists such as Lady Gaga, Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison; semi classical pieces; and spiritual music.

LMW is a regular competitor in the East Coast Band Championships, and stages concerts through the year at various venues in the Lake Macquarie/Hunter area.
