How often do I need to complete the Lab Supervisor Training course?

You are required to complete the course at least once every five years. If you are unsure when you last completed the training, please check your UNSW training record, or reach out to your Faculty's Safety Partner at jo.whyte@unsw.edu.au.

Is there any prerequisite training?

Yes – the online (Moodle) course Managing Health and Safety (course code HSEOSO) is a prerequisite for the Lab Supervisor training course. Please make every effort to complete this course before attending Lab Supervisor training. HSEOSO can be accessed via the UNSW Staff/Student Enrolment site.

Do I have to attend in person?

Yes - trainees are required to attend the entire two hours of in-person training, so please schedule accordingly.

Is the training facility accessible to people with mobility issues?

Yes. The room is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to the floor, and an accessible bathroom nearby.

In person Laboratory/Workshop Supervisor Training - DVCRE (HSELST)

This two-hour course outlines the responsibilities for supervisors of staff and/or HDR students whilst operating within workshops and laboratories (except computer labs, e.g. CSE).

This course is delivered in person, and is a mandatory part of your training at UNSW.

All supervisors must also complete the online course HSEOSO Managing Health and Safety, which should ideally be completed before attending this face-to-face training. Your Lab Supervisor Training record will not be uploaded to the UNSW training records until HSEOSO has been completed.
If you arrive over 10 minutes after the training session commences, you will be turned away and asked to book into a later session.
