The Application Process

  • Students are required to submit statements of 100 words or fewer describing 1. 'why they are interested in attending this program' and 2. 'what inspires them about science, giving a specific example'. Have this prepared before you start your application.
  • Students should answer questions in their own words; authentic responses will be highly regarded. Deakin will screen responses for use in Generative AI, and these responses will not be considered.
  • The dates may be outside the usual dates for work experience. This is due to the availability of the laboratories and technical staff at Deakin. Please check your school schedule before applying, as the dates cannot be changed, and students are expected to attend all 5 days of the program.
  • Spaces are limited to 45 students in total, with up to 5 students per school accepted to the program. An application does not guarantee a place (although we wish you all the best!).
  • It is compulsory for students to attend all 5 days of the Laboratory Work Experience program.
  • Applications close on Friday, 27 March.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by 3 April.
