Hands-on kimchi making class!

Fermented foods have wonderful health benefits, not to mention they taste fantastic. In this hands-on class you will participate in making your own kimchi and you'll take two 500g jars of the finished product home with you. Plus you'll learn how to make it for yourself.

We'll do the complete process of producing authentic fermented kimchi. Starting with salting the cabbage, then making the sauce, and bottling the finished product. Along the way we'll talk about the health benefits of fermented foods and the 2,000-year history of kimchi.

My kimchi was a prize winner at the 2016 Royal Melbourne Show – we'll be following the same recipe in the class.

Please bring:

  • A large kitchen knife (eg 6-inch or 8-inch)
  • A chopping board
  • Everything else is provided!

The cost of the class covers all ingredients, plus 2 new jars to take home the kimchi that you’ve made, and a recipe handout. It's recommended to wear older clothes as the kimchi sauce can stain clothes if it splashes on you. You can also wear an apron if you wish, but that's up to you.

NB: the recipe includes fish sauce so unfortunately it's not vegetarian or vegan.
