Don’t be late for a very important date at State Library Victoria this winter. See the Library transform into a night-time wonderland just as the clock strikes 6:30pm.

Get loud at the Library after hours in this special winter edition of Kids Takeover. Explore dance raves, illuminated art, torchlit tours and so much more after sunset. Experience an unmissable night of play in one of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings.

All activities are free and run all evening unless otherwise stated.

RAVE

Dance the night away at a family rave with Big Fish Little Fish in the Conversation Quarter. On top of DJs and quality tunes, there’ll be giant parachutes, big balloons and performances galore!

All sound is decibel checked to be safe for even the smallest ears and all visuals and lighting are strobe free.


CREATE

Explore the magic of Paper Planet by Polyglot Theatre and help grow the world with the power of paper, tape and your imagination in the Pauline Gandel Children’s Quarter.

Fashion a funky headband to wear to the rave with Big Fish Little Fish.

Drop in to an interactive storytelling experience with 100 Story Building. Your imagination will take shape using cardboard, light and shadow to bring a story to life!


EXPLORE

Immerse yourself in the art installation Bloom from The Indirect Object in the Ian Potter Queen’s Hall. Crawl inside an inflatable gumnut or nestle into the flower spikes and listen to the meditative soundscapes featuring native bush sounds.

Add-on activity: Wander through the Library under the cover of darkness with our Torchlit Tours. In these tours, you’ll journey through our famous Reading Rooms and galleries with 100 Story Building, hear thrilling tales and do hands-on creative activities. Tickets are $10 per person.
