Jungkajungka Woodlands Festival
Fri., 14/04/2017, 4:00 pm – Mon., 17/04/2017, 9:00 am AWST
Don't miss being a part of the inaugural Jungkajungka Woodlands Festival to be held over Easter (Sat 15-Sun 16 April) in Norseman – the Heart of the Great Western Woodlands.
This is Ngadju country and we acknowledge the traditional owners of this part of the Great Western Woodlands and thank them for co-hosting the festival.
The festival theme is “The Great Western Woodlands: Knowledge I Care I Opportunity” and there is a full program of presentations, workshops, woodland tours and cultural performances. We are delighted to announce that the keynote presentation is provided by Professor Stephen Hopper from the University of Western Australia.
We encourage you to arrive on Friday to attend the Ngadju Cultural Tour to the local woodlands departing at 4pm.
Wake up early on Saturday and participate in Yoga in the woodlands before heading down to the main street of Norseman to wander around the Woodlands Community Markets. The official opening and Welcome to Country is at 11am. The day will continue with Woodlands Knowledge: presentation and panel discussion, Story Telling and Easter Egg Hunt for the Kids and in the evening come along to the Community Concert in the Park.
Sunday morning you are invited to go on a cultural guided tour to Watertrees and Jungkajunka with the Ngadju Traditional Owners. The tour will be followed by a presentation and panel discussion on the Woodlands Governance and Management and Woodland Opportunities throughout the day. A photography workshop, talks about technology and the woodlands (GIS, drones etc) and the chance to learn about indigenous language will also be available.
Finish off your long weekend on Monday morning with a morning woodland nature walk from 7am - 9am before heading home.
This is a free event including the option to camp at the Norseman Sports Complex (Town Oval). Showers are available at the Visitors Centre. As hotel/motel accommodation in Norseman is limited we encourage early booking for those wanting that option. A self-contained RV park is also available. Although there are shops and dining options in Norseman we suggest people also bring backup supplies of their favourite foods.
There will be car-pooling and/or bus options available for people travelling from Perth, Kalgoorlie and Esperance. For this and any other information – please contact email@example.com
