What does it mean to be a leader?
Meet Tom Clark, someone who has seen, experienced and operated in leadership roles at every level, and in some of the world’s most famous and infamous locations.
It began while taking a Gap Year in the UK, Tom successfully auditioned to become a ceremonial musician to Her Majesty The Queen and for nearly five years, he carried out ceremonial duties and state functions in support of The Royal Household. He not only witnessed leadership in the form of royalty, but his duties included playing for Prime Ministers and Presidents during State visits to the UK.
He then attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and after commissioning, he served with an infantry battalion and was deployed to Kandahar in Afghanistan working directly for the Commander British Forces during the peak of high tempo operations.
He was later deployed to Belize for jungle survival training in preparation for his second tour in Afghanistan where he was in the Helmand province during the peak of high tempo fighting against the Taliban as part of a multi-national effort against terrorism, counter-narcotics and in support of humanitarian aid.
Selected to become a Company Commander at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he was responsible for the delivery of optimised leadership training for 77 cadets and 12 staff. The academy delivers training through a gruelling 11-month course for British and Foreign Army Officer trainees and is also used as a leadership development course for future Heads of State.
Retiring after 22 years, Tom returned to run the family business in the Grampians and promotes regional business through his position as President of the Ararat Chamber of Commerce.
