Event description

Description

Jump Up Occupational Therapy Parent Information Series aims to provide practical skills to help parents understand and support their children.

Sensory Processing is the organisation of sensation for use. Adequate processing of the senses is required to develop concentration, organisation, self-esteem, self-control, confidence, academic learning, abstract reasoning and specialisation of the body and brain. Research indicates that 5-20% of children in a class may be experiencing difficulties with sensory processing.

Understanding of how our bodies receive and use sensory information helps children and the adults in their lives learn to monitor, maintain and change their level of alertness so that it is appropriate to the situation or task. During this information session, we will cover:

  • What is sensory processing?

  • How behaviour may reflect both the current level of organisation of the nervous system and the student’s best attempt to respond adaptively and efficiently to the demands of a situation.

  • Activities and strategies to assist with regulating energy levels appropriate to the task at hand.

Sensory Regulation is one part of a five part parent information series presented by Jump Up OT. Discounts apply if you register for the complete series at once. If you are interested in registering for the five part series at the reduced rate of $200 (save $50) please email Polly at admin@jumpupot.com.au
