Description

"There are an estimated 20.9 Million people trapped in some form of slavery today. It’s sometimes called “Modern-Day Slavery” and sometimes “Human Trafficking". At all times it is slavery at its core"

What is the definition of human trafficking?

The United Nations defines human trafficking as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion) for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation. It takes on many forms today.

Guest Speaker : Sr Claire Griffin

Sr Claire Griffin has been a Brigidine Sister for over 40 years and during that time she has lived in different communities around Victoria and ministered as a teacher, a Deanery Resource Person, a Pastoral associate and a resource person with the Columban Mission Society. For the past 10 years she has been involved in International leadership within the Brigidine Congregation as well as doing some facilitation and planning with parish teams, parish councils and other groups. The lecture is in memory of our esteemed parishioner and friend, late Joyce Rebeiro

Joyce was born in Calcutta on 6th May 1941 to Everard and Beryl Rebeiro, she migrated to Australia in 1968. "Joyce’s first position in the workforce was in pursuit of social justice for some of the most disadvantaged in India, the refugees and migrants from Bangladesh. Her commitment to the empowerment of those at the bottom of the socio economic ladder is the recurring theme throughout her lifetime.Joyce’s personal philosophies and her deep and abiding commitment to creating a better and fairer world for all drove everything she did. She was a woman with strong social justice convictions and also strong courage and determination to make a difference. Joyce did make a lasting difference in so many ways to so many people" (J Tresize 2016).

Joyce's legacy lives on as she continues to inspire us to stand together for Justice Peace and Integrity of Creation...

We cordially invite you to join us on as we remember and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable human being.
