Joint Case Reviews are structured group learning activities providing opportunities for problem solving, sharing knowledge & collaboration.

The Joint Case Review (JCR) process was established in mid-2017 by Families ACT with the aim of promoting opportunities for reflective discussion on casework practice. Since then, JCRs have become a regular feature of sector development for Family Case Management services and Youth Engagement programs within the CYFSP in the ACT.

JCRs provide an opportunity to review developments with vulnerable families by identifying key theories and research as well as assisting the development and dissemination of new practices. A key focus is on changing the language of review in practice to 'good' and 'problematic' practice and avoid the language of 'errors' and 'mistakes'.

JCRs promote opportunities for reflective discussion on casework practice using a professional learning methodology of de-personalising practice approaches for growth in:

  • reflective capacity
  • critical analysis
  • increased collaborative practice

Experience tells us a good JCR session comprises representatives from different agencies, therefore Families ACT reserves the right to review and if necessary reduce the number of representatives attending from the same agency.

If you have any questions or want more information about JCRs, please email Families ACT at comms@familiesact.org.au or visit our website at familiesact.org.au!
