Memorial ANU Professor John David Pitchford 1932-2021
About this event
Professor John David Pitchford (1932–2021) joined the economics department at ANU in 1962 and was a Professor from 1965–1995. Over this period, he taught macroeconomics and mathematical economics to generations of ANU students, including current and former senior Treasury and Reserve Bank of Australia officials. John was one of Australia’s leading academic economists. His support for flexible exchange rates had a crucial influence on this major reform and his policy work on the current account led to a reversal of then-monetary policy that targeted it.
John died on 26 June 2021, but plans for his memorial were delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.
All are now welcome to attend this public memorial in honour of John and hear recollections of his remarkable life from some who knew him personally and professionally.
