The surprising health effects of algae-based medicines
Spirulina is a superfood with a long history. First Nations people in Central America would use these blue-green microalgae as an ingredient to bake healthy cakes that were loaded with proteins, vitamins and minerals. Now, Dr. Mohammad Farouq Sharifpour and fellow researchers at the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine (AITHM) are investigating newly discovered health effects that could turn Spirulina into a platform for innovative health solutions.
