Event description

Description

The Steepery Tea Co’s Tea School is very pleased to announce the first workshop, Japan – an introduction, in our Japanese intensive tea class series. This workshop will be co-hosted by Misato Furumiya and Kym Cooper.

Misato will introduce you to the incredible world of Japanese green teas. During the class we will taste a number of different styles and appreciate the distinctive flavour profile that this growing region produces. Misato will introduce some of the theoretical knowledge to allow you to gain a deeper appreciation and enjoyment of Japanese green tea. You will be given access to the authentic tools used in Japanese green tea brewing through a hands-on brewing lesson that will give you an opportunity to practice preparing and brewing Japanese green tea yourself.

Kym has recently returned from an intensive study tour in Japan with The Japanese Tea Export Council. She will share some images and details about the innovation and progression she observed during her recent trip. You will have the opportunity to participate in a sensory evaluation of different types of teas (outside of the Japanese Green Tea category) that she discovered during her trip.

Co-hosted by Misato Furumiya & Kym Cooper

Misato is a Certified Japanese Green Tea Instructor, Urasenke Tea ceremony Sado practitioner and Japan Tea Goodwill Ambassador. Misato is passionate about sharing her knowledge of Japanese green tea and hosts tea demonstrations and hands-on brewing lessons for the local Brisbane community.

Kym is the owner of The Steepery Tea Co. and travelled to Japan’s Shizouka and Kagoshima prefectures in 2018 to participate in an intensive tea study programme delivered by The Japanese Export Council. She is passionate about the traditional Japanese tea culture but is also interested in the emerging trends, modernisation of tea production and service from this growing region.
