About The Argyle Water Access Fund
Fresh water is the most limiting factor in Australia’s agricultural sector; a critical input to food and fibre production. Access to Australia’s irrigation water supply is highly regulated, metered and actively accounted within river systems and groundwater aquifers. The right to access these finite water supplies is defined by ‘water entitlements’; secure legal titles to receive an annual share of a defined water resource in perpetuity.
Argyle Capital Partners, established since 2007, is a pioneer and specialist manager of investments in Australian water entitlements.
Argyle’s Water Access Fund provides Australian investors returns generated from the active management of a select portfolio of Australia’s scarce water resources via the Argyle Water Fund.
The Water Fund is invested in a diverse portfolio of highly reliable Australian water entitlements servicing irrigators across the southern Murray-Darling Basin (‘MDB’) region. The Fund is actively managed to derive annual income via water sales in spot and forward markets servicing a range of farmers and commodities. The Fund also generates income by leasing water entitlements to select irrigators for up to five-year periods.
Argyle expects capital gains to accrue to the Fund over the medium-term as water entitlements are priced to reflect their scarcity. Irrigators compete to procure access to capped and constrained water volumes in specific geographies invested by the Fund. Water is the most limiting factor for Australia’s agricultural production.
Investment in the Fund represents an efficient and risk-adjusted means to invest in Australia’s world-competitive agricultural sector. The strategy provides exposure to returns from a ‘basket’ of irrigated farm enterprises, food and fibre commodity types, and regional geographies with relatively limited operational risk.
