This 3-day workshop is an introduction to the theory and practice of traditional signwriting.

The theory includes letter construction, design principles, colour theory and the safe use of paints and solvents. The practice includes brush and mahlstick control, drawing patterns, transfer of patterns to substrate, paint thinning and mixing, signwriting, equipment cleaning and maintenance. 

At the end of the workshop, you will take away a property name sign of their own design (approx. retail value $330-440). "

Age: Adult 18+

Skill Level: No Previous Experience Required

Inclusions: Two brushes, materials to assemble one mahlstick, a wooden sign panel smaller than 450x600mm. A booklet in .pdf version covering main points, resources and how to continue. 

What to Bring: Pencils, notebook, camera (optional), packaging for transport of finished sign panel, small tins to use as paint pots. 

Clothing Guidelines: Painting clothes, enclosed footwear, gloves if required, long hair to be tied back.
