Introduction to the Regional Ecosystem Framework

This one-day workshop provides background knowledge and practical skills in the interpretation and implementation of vegetation community assessment and identification in accordance with the Queensland Government's Regional Ecosystem framework. The course is applicable to everyone from environmental practitioners, rangers and field assessment personnel to any interested persons wanting to grasp a better understanding of Queensland’s Regional Ecosystem framework and/or vegetation management legislation. The training workshop combines classroom-based theory sessions and learning activities with field traverses where you will be able to apply your new (or polished) knowledge.

Learning outcomes:

  • What is a Regional Ecosystem?
  • Why use Regional Ecosystems?
  • Land and vegetation classification
  • Bioregional classification in Queensland
  • Interpreting geology maps to identify land zones
  • Vegetation Management Act 1999 Classes and Biodiversity statuses
  • Regional Ecosystem identification
  • Scenario – how to undertake ground-truthing
  • Advantages and limitations

Course includes:

  • Printed and bound workshop notes
  • Practical component – field traverse to interpret geology mapping, determine land zone, and identify Regional Ecosystems. Participants need to wear standard fieldwork gear (closed footwear, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and wet weather gear if required).
  • Participants will be required to provide their own transport to visit the field site
  • Morning tea and lunch is provided (accommodating for dietary requirements, where possible), along with tea and coffee
  • A4 Certificate of Attendance (supplied as PDF)


The course cost includes 10% GST.

Please note the cancellation/alteration policy below:

• Cancellation made more than 5 business days prior to the commencement of the workshop will be entitled to a full refund (excluding admin fee of $25).

• Cancellation made less than 5 business days prior to the commencement of the workshop will be entitled to a 50% refund of paid fees.

• Requests to transfer workshop dates made more than 5 business days prior to the commencement of the originally booked workshop will be free of charge. Attendees will only be offered a one-time free of charge transfer, any additional transfer requests will incur an admin fee of $25.

• Requests to transfer workshop dates made less than 5 business days prior to the commencement of the originally booked workshop will not be refunded the original workshop fee and will be required to pay an additional 25% of the original fee for re-booking.

• Substitution of paid attendees can be made at any time.

• Attendees who fail to notify CO2 Australia that they are unable to attend prior to the commencement of the workshop will not be refunded and will be required to pay the full fees to re-book another workshop.

• CO2 Australia understands that some situations are unavoidable and will review requests for transfer/refund on a case-by-case basis, depending on the circumstances.
