Introduction to simulation in learning and development

Simulation allows trainers from a huge range of industries to provide safe spaces in which learners can learn from their mistakes without real-world consequences. However, there is a perception of simulations having to be being high-end, high investment and high fidelity to be effective.

In fact, simulation can range from sitting under a table with a tablecloth (to replicate a confined space) through to role plays (live, online or in a webinar), to the high-end, technology-supported simulations used to train astronauts!

We use simulations so frequently, that we often don’t even categorise what we are doing as simulation. So what is simulation and what is all the fuss about it? This session will try to answer those questions

The session covers:

  • What is simulation and different ways that it is used
  • Common terms and descriptions to assist with describing our simulations
  • Introduction to a taxonomy to help in making decisions about what simulation to use in your training.
