Together we can forge gender equality. This inclusive and accessible event invites everyone to come together for an evening of insights in to the advocacy for women.

About Guest Speaker: Magistrate Debra Maher. She was appointed as a Magistrate of the Local Court of NSW in 2018 initially in the Children’s Court and for the last three years in the Local Courts at Blacktown and Mount Druitt. Prior to her appointment as a Magistrate Her Honour practiced as a criminal solicitor for over 20 years, including at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and then Legal Aid NSW, giving her the valuable experience of both prosecuting offenders and representing them.
Her Honour also spent many years on the Board of 2 NGOs – Women’s Legal Services NSW and then Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia, organisations that provided services and advocated for legal reforms. With this history she has a sophisticated understanding of the reality and trauma of sexual and domestic violence and a considered appreciation of the challenges presented to the legal system in responding to these issues.
