Yarning Circle

Baluk Arts Indigenous artists will be sharing their unique story, career journey, and creative process, through a yarning circle and conversation at 11am. They each have a strong connection to their culture through their creative arts practice.

Featuring:

-Terrie Stewart, a proud Taungurung woman and contemporary Aboriginal weaver. Weaving is central to Terrie’s cultural practice and identity. Living away from her ancestral Country, she uses weaving as a way to reconnect with culture, story and belonging. Alongside her artistic practice, Terrie worked for 35 years in the Victorian Criminal Justice System, where she advocated for and supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

-Aimee McCartney, is a Taungurung, Wotjobaluk, Wemba Wemba and Boon Wurrung woman. Aimee is a current serving member of the Royal Australian Air Force, contemporary artist and has extensive professional experience in State and Federal Government agencies. Culture has been ever present in her life and shapes her creative work.

-Vicki Thomas, Bunurong and Trawlwoolway woman. She is a member of the Bunurong Land Council and is an active member in her local community, mentoring younger artists. Over 35+ years in the beauty industry has given her an eye for detail and colour. Vicki feels a sense of connection to her culture when painting.

-Sherryn Antonopoulos, a Taungurung Woman, with over 40 years of management experience. In addition to her corporate career, she has worked with Taungurung land and water councils. Creating art allows her to connect to her culture, and relax, reflect and rejuvenate.

We hope you can enjoy us for this truly special event.
