About this event

Join us in recognising the achievement of women in education at our International Women’s Day breakfast.

Hear from our special guest speaker Jelena Dokic and meet the finalists as we announce the 2024 Director General’s Women of Achievement Award.

Hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Tina Altieri.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is Invest in women: Accelerate progress.

Achieving gender equality and women’s well-being in all aspects of life is more crucial than ever if we want to create prosperous economies and a healthy planet. However, we are facing a key challenge: the alarming $360 billion annual deficit in gender-equality measures by 2030.

About the speaker

Jelena Dokic

Jelena Dokic has had a storied and well-documented life and tennis career both on and off the court. With a stellar playing career, which included defeating then World Number 1, Martina Hingis, at the age of 16. Her rapid ascent through the world ranking was marred by her off-court struggles.

Jelena has penned the best-selling autobiography Unbreakable, a book which details her career and her life. In the book, she details the struggles of being a refugee and dealing with poverty, racism, bullying, and discrimination. She also talks about the physical and emotional abuse she suffered for over 20 years at the hands of her father which started when she was just 6 years old. Jelena also talks about dealing with heavy depression and almost committing suicide.

Jelena now pours her efforts into commentary as one of the key voices for Nine Network’s coverage of the Australian Open. She is also a motivational speaker, speaking on topics that include resilience, mental health and empowerment.
