About this event

Join TGA colleagues to celebrate International Tour Guide Day.

ITGD is an initiative led by World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations - https://wftga.org/activities/international-tourist-guide-day/ to promote the value that professional tour guides bring to tour experiences and tourism.

The day is celebrated on or close to 21 February each year. Due to the high COVID numbers in Australia during summer, our ITGD event is being held on Sunday 27 March 2022.

TGA plans to hold ITGD events throughout Australia. The event here relates to Melbourne tours only. More information to come for activities in Darwin, Cairns and Sydney.

TGA members are invited to lead tours for Melbourne locals and visitors. Tour guests will pay a nominal commitment fee of $10.00 per ticket with all proceeds directed to Tour Guides Australia.

This event has been created to register YOUR interest in LEADING one or more tours. Guests will book the tours on a separate site.

All tours commence in the The Atrium at Fed Square. Tours finish in the vicinity of Fed Square, but away from the meeting point.

There are three different tours and staggered hourly start times:

  • Laneways & Arcades - 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 2.00pm, 3.00pm
  • Marvellous Melbourne - 10.15am, 11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm, 3.15pm
  • Riverfront - 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm

Please allow min 2 hours between tours if you would like to host more than one tour. Tours are 1-1.5hrs duration to allow time for both the tour guide and guests to have a break and sufficient time to join or lead another tour.

Each tour group will be limited to 10 guests and conducted in accordance with COVIDSafe rules at the time.

The tour routes and itineraries should cover the tour title/topic, but are very flexible and at the discretion of each tour guide, according to your expertise, interests and knowledge.

Please register your interest (book here) to lead particular tours/times OR to assist as a Front of House host (check in guests, photography, directing, answering questions) at the meeting point. Scroll down to see all options.

We will conduct an online briefing for ITGD tour guides before the event. If you have any questions, please contact Leanne Saward - pdofficer@tga.org.au

Thanks for your support!
