Inner West Play Reading Club - Fly Girl
Embrace your inner thespian and connect with fellow theatre enthusiasts at our monthly meet up at Leichhardt Library.
This month we will be reading Fly Girl by Genevieve Hegney and Catherine Moore.
About the play
It’s the late 1970s. The Australian aviation industry is a boys’ club cruising at altitude. Women are hired to smile, serve nuts, and light cigarettes — not fly the plane. But Deborah Lawrie is cleared for take-off. She’s got the skills to fly the big jets. There’s just one problem: Reg Ansett won’t let her anywhere near the cockpit. Fasten your seatbelts for turbulence, laughs, and lift-off. This is a fearless, funny celebration of grit, defiance, and one woman’s determination to fly.
About the Author
Genevieve Hegney and Catherine Moore use their trademark humour to expose the absurd obstacles faced by a trailblazing aviatrix who refused to be grounded. Inspired by a true story, FLY GIRL follows Deborah’s turbulent journey to becoming Australia’s first female commercial airline pilot.
