Event description

Description

Since 2013, Australian government aid commitments have been declining, reaching record low levels as a percentage of Gross National Income. During this period, many aid organisations and community groups in Australia have attempted to advocate for greater commitments to aid. Yet through successive Australian budgets, low levels of aid have persisted and in real terms have been further cut each year How are aid commitments made in Australia? And what are the prospects for groups engaged in aid advocacy?
This workshop will involve a presentation of research findings by the report's author Dr Tamas Wells (University of Melbourne) - focussing particularly on the role of Save the Children's Australian Aid and Parliament project. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Marion Stanton (Head of Government Relations, Save the Children) and Professor John Langmore (University of Melbourne and former Member of Parliament).
