Science Gallery Melbourne is part of an international network of galleries with a common mission: to ignite creativity and discovery in young adults, where science and art collide. We aim to inspire young adults to pursue a career in the arts and sciences whilst connecting artists with a collaborative global network.Science Gallery Melbourne will open in 2021 as part of Melbourne Connect, a new innovation precinct developed by The University of Melbourne.

<blockquote>“Nothing happens unless something moves” — Albert Einstein</blockquote>In this performance-based forum, explore cultural and intergenerational trauma with First Nations people in a climate change context.In what ways can a speculative preparedness mindset shape our future responses to climate emergency shocks? What are the links between climate system inertia and social inertia as CO2 levels in the atmosphere inch closer to 450ppm? How can we develop a ‘muscle memory’ at a cellular, physiological and psychological level to better equip future generations to respond to climate-related disaster events? Motivated by the award-winning film <a href="https://www.jenraeis.com/refugium-2021" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">‘REFUGIUM’</a> by Jen Rae + Claire G. Coleman, Inertia is a performance-based participatory event. Presented by the Centre for Reworlding, Inertia explores cultural and intergenerational trauma prevention in the climate emergency context through an afternoon of storytelling, participatory dialogue, movements and non-movements with food and drink offerings. Drawing from diverse knowledge systems, experience and creative methodologies, Inertia is a forum to learn from and unlearn with First Nations Elders, artists, researchers, and community members about resistance, change and transformation. Come to see what you need to see, hear what you need to hear, say what you need to say, and feel what you need to feel as we Reworld together. The event culminates post a week-long residency at Science Gallery Melbourne with Jen Rae, Claire G. Coleman and their collaborators.
