Date and time
Location
QUT Executive Education Centre
Level 4, B Block QUT Gardens Point Brisbane, QLD 4000 AustraliaDescription
QUT Graduate School of Business is running a series of workshops on four critical areas of good strategy- namely governance, communication, project planning and strategic change.
ABOUT THIS SESSION
Project Planning – complex initiatives do not get efficiently delivered by chance
We have all seen project planning in action in some form or other. This is a core discipline in commercial enterprises but we need to ask ourselves “why do so many projects seem to run late and over budget”! Logically, if there are good project plans and disciplines most strategic initiatives would come in on time on budget.
In this session, we see how good project planning disciplines will deliver good outcomes by focusing on some of the common problem areas associated with this key activity. We shall review:
- Identifying, understanding and managing interdependencies – internal and external.
- The role of a project manager and the authorities they require to get their job done.
- Reporting disciplines and how this links back to metrics and authorities
- The role and function of good steering committees.
- Version and variance controls.
During this session, attendees will be asked to contribute their own experiences of both good and bad project management and importantly the outcomes of both.
