In Spirit

Opening event: Saturday March 7, 12pm
Devonport Regional Gallery

Everyone is welcome.

Exhibition of work by contemporary Tasmanian artists Laura Gillam, Corinna Howell, Jacob Leary, Erin Linhart, Georgia Lucy, and Molly Turner.

To be somewhere ‘in spirit’ is to be there without physically being there. To show support from afar, or to haunt. Devonport is The City with Spirit. As we wait and prepare for the arrival of the new Spirit of Tasmania this exhibition considers what it means to be present in absence and to believe, ecstatically, in spirits.

This exhibition invites six contemporary Tasmanian artists to respond to the emotional, spectral, political, or imagined connections they hold with place. How do we continue to inhabit, support, or disrupt communities we may no longer physically occupy? And what presences remain after departure or emerge before arrival?

Curated by Ellina Evans

Exhibition Dates: 7 March – 30 May 2026
