Pretty much all the set” – Harry Williams, thedwarf “Together with the two-pronged, strong female vocal attack, backed by a brilliant rhythm section, I’m Talking are still able to deliver” – Greg Phillips, Australian Musician “Bryan Ferry drew the crowd, I’m Talking stunned them” – Paul Cashmere, Noise11 “I’m Talking were a revelation” – Simon Collins, The West Australian Formed in 1983 by guitarist Robert Goodge, bassist Barbara Hogarth and saxophonist Ian Cox, all of whom had come from the Melbourne post-punk independent scene, the trio decided to head in a more commercial direction, embracing dance and pop. They enlisted like minds in keyboardist Stephen Charlesworth and drummer Cameron Newman, and together with the powerful vocalists Kate Ceberano and Zan Abeyratne, they created a compelling set of tunes, and soon found themselves favourites on the Melbourne and Sydney inner-city club circuit. With their mix of backgrounds and genders, I’m Talking stand out, and their strength comes from their diversity. The band only released one album, but they saw huge success. Their second ever single, ‘Trust Me’, went top-10 on the ARIA Chart, and won the band two Countdown Awards: Best Newcomer and Most Popular Female Vocalist (Kate). Their debut and only album, Bear Witness, was certified gold.
