Event description

To have a great idea you have to have a lot of them –Thomas Edison

Hackathons, Solvathons, Hackfests are all the rage these days but what are they? Can you enter them if you aren’t a programmer? What skills can you bring to the table if you don’t know how to code? Well if you are curious about innovation, entrepreneurship and hackathons but not sure if it’s the right thing for you, then come along to Three76 Hub’s Ideas Collider!

This event provides you with the opportunity to work with diverse teams, build communication, problem-solving and presentation skills in a fun and judgement free environment. It is the perfect chance to learn about the world of hackathons without having to give up an entire weekend and the best part is (like hackathons) you don’t need to have any specific skills to enter!

At Ideas Collider we bring together students (undergradate and postgraduate), researchers, health sector workers and community, split you into mixed teams of 3-5 people. We then give you a grand challenge to come up with a solution for in 50 minutes and then pitch it to the audience and a panel of expert judges to win some great prizes! Did we mention pizza and drinks are on us?

GRAND CHALLENGE – Aged Healthcare Services

The number of Australians aged 75 years or older is expected to rise by 4 million by 2060 - an increase from 6% to 14% of the population. This growth coupled with our sparsely populated country presents some serious aged healthcare problems. Your task is to derive potential services or products that relieve demands on our healthcare system. Your solution must be able to assist those who provide services aged healthcare and address at least one of the three aspects of health:

Mental Health Includes both emotional and intellectual health. Emotional health relates to one's ability to be aware of and manage their feelings and relationships with others. Intellectual health refers to one's ability to utilise their mind as an instrument to make decisions, learn and interpret their experiences of the world.

Physical Health Refers to knowledge and practise of one's needs for regular physical activity, healthy eating habits, nutrition, personal hygiene, healthy sleep patterns as well as the absence of drug and alcohol abuse.

Environmental Health Relates to all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect human health. This includes limiting one's exposure to harmful chemicals, radiation and biological agents that may be present in the soil, water, air, food etc. This also extends to creating built environments that promote a safety, community and wellness.

In your 3 minute presentation you will need to outline:

What is your solution to this problem?

Who are your customers and why would they want this product/service?

What is unique about your solution?

What is your potential business model? Are you selling this idea to the government, commercialising it or building a social enterprise?

Who is your team and what is it about their backgrounds/experience that adds value?
