About this event

Deakin’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team invite Deakin staff and students to attend this webinar session, How to be an Ally, as part of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). On 17 May 1990, the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. While we celebrate this milestone and other advancements in LGBTQIA+ equality, the reality is that there's still more work to do.

Join us for this session to explore what LGBTQIA+ inclusion looks like, how to use inclusive language, and the role we can all play to be allies to members of the LGBTQIA+ community. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

About the facilitator: Alicea Yu (she/her) is the Coordinator, Training and Capacity Building in Deakin’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team. She is an experienced trainer with over 5 years of experience at KPMG Australia in audit, consulting and audit learning teams. Alicea is passionate about inclusion and diversity, particularly building understanding of LGBTQIA+ identities, and the experiences of Asian and other culturally diverse people.
