Event description

Description

The Graduate Research School is hosting a whole-day thesis writing workshop designed for MRes students who have completed their coursework and are in the research stage. The workshop is designed to give you practical advice about how to plan and execute the writing of your MRes thesis. We will also cover general expectations about theses in terms of structure and format, and will look at some examples of completed MRes theses and (hopefully) examiner responses - gaining examiner insights.

Our aim is to give you a sense of how to produce a document that is professionally presented and professionally argued.

The day is divided as follows:

10:00am - 12:00pm: Plenary session about planning, producing, and presenting your thesis: 'What should your thesis look like'

12:00pm - 1:00pm: Lunch (provided)

1:00pm - 2:00pm: Beakout sessions led by relevant HDR Directors/MRes Coordinators from primary discplinary streams (humanities, social science & sciences)

2:00pm - 2:30pm: Plenary panel with recent MRes graduates who have moved on to PhD: 'Lessons Learned from Building an MRes Thesis'

2:45pm - 4:00pm: Disciplinary breakout session led by recent MRes graduates and/or HDR Directors/MRes Coordinators

4:00pm - 4:15pm: Break

4:15pm - 4:45pm: Closing it out: what to do next, forms to keep an eye on and who to call if things go wrong

Places are limited and bookings are essential via Eventbrite. For all enquiries, please email grs.mres@westernsydney.edu.au.

We look forward to seeing you there.
