Overview

A creative program part of the City of Ryde Artist-in-Residence Initiative

As part of City of Ryde’s Artist-in-Residence program, we are delighted to offer a new creative series and opportunity to meet our artist 2026 artist - Tom Isaacs

How It Feels is a hands-on creative workshop series that invites the community to explore emotion through making. This session is a family-friendly edition, designed especially for families with young children.

Guided by artist and former early childhood educator Tom Isaacs, resident artist for the City of Ryde, children and their grown-ups will explore feelings through play, experimentation, and shared making with fabric.

In these relaxed, family-friendly sessions, participants will create a simple textile artwork that expresses a feeling that is important to them. Workshops focus on creativity, imagination, and shared making, with opportunities to experiment with colours, textures, and materials in a supportive environment. No sewing or textile experience is required, and activities can be adapted for different ages and abilities.

The workshops also provide a welcoming space for families to spend time together, meet other local families, and enjoy making side by side.

All materials and tools will be provided. Families are welcome to bring their own fabric, thread, or sewing materials to use or donate.

Families are invited to contribute their finished pieces to a larger collective artwork, bringing together many small expressions into a shared community work that reflects the feelings of children and families in the area.

Date: Wednesday 8 April

Time: 1.00pm - 3.00pm

Location: INTO-ARTS Studio + Gallery - 71 Ryedale Rd, West Ryde.

Parking: Timed parking available in local surrounding streets.

Cost: This workshop is FREE but registration is essential and places are strictly limited.

Please aim to arrive 30 minutes earlier to have a chat with Tom and share your story. All skill levels welcome!
