Event description
Develop responses to toxic and discriminatory cultures with strategies for ‘calling out’ and ‘calling in’.

About this Event

As a calling out culture emerges to 'interrupt' bias in workplaces and society, the implications of such interventions can be complex. Where calling out implies a disruptive approach, calling in draws on ideas of reflective understanding. The How Do We Call It Out workshop explores these differences, their sensitivities and how they can be navigated in contemporary workplaces.

Elephant In Our Room is offering this series of short 'how to' workshops to introduce various approaches to workplace conflict transformation. These monthly Sunday workshops are accessible and inter-disciplinary, providing 'tastes' of the creative methodology employed by Elephant In Our Room.

In this workshop, we will:

  • Identify situations when ‘calling out’ is required
  • Develop cognitive and communication strategies to call out disrespectful or discriminatory behaviour
  • Explore the differences between ‘calling out’ and ‘calling in’
  • Reflect on the emergence of ‘calling out’ culture in contemporary workplace

The workshop session will involve:

  • Participatory process
  • Interactive activities
  • Small group discussion
  • Reflection

The session will include a short break for refreshments.
