Week 1

📅 Monday 2nd February | Friday 30th January

🚜 Farmer for a Day – Meet & Care for Our Friendly Farm Animals

Children step into the boots of a young farmer as they meet our goats, ducks, chickens, quails, bunnies, and more. They will help with feeding, watering, gentle handling, and daily animal care routines. This fun first week builds confidence, connection, and respect for the animals that support our homestead.

Week 2

📅 Monday 9th February | Friday 6th February

🪴 Designing a Winter Wonderland Garden Bed

Children will discover how to plan a productive winter garden using real permaculture design principles: sunlight, spacing, crop rotation, and companion planting. Children will design their own winter garden beds ready for the season ahead.

Week 3

📅 Monday 16th February | Friday 13th February

🌱 Winter Seedlings Masterclass – Start Your Cool-Season Crops

It’s seed-raising time! Children will prepare seed trays, mix seed-raising blend, and sow winter crops. We’ll discuss germination, watering, protection and how to keep seedlings thriving during warm February days.

Week 4

📅 Monday 23rd February | Friday 20th February

🥕 Carrot Growing 101 – Preparing, Sowing & Nurturing a Root Crop

Children will learn the secrets of growing long, straight, delicious carrots. Together we’ll prepare a soft, fluffy carrot bed and sow tiny carrot seeds, learning about shallow watering, thinning, spacing and patient waiting while root crops develop underground.

Week 5

📅 Monday 2nd March | Friday 27th February

🍇 Farm Kitchen Winter Wellness – Crafting Elderberry Syrup

In our outdoor bush kitchen, children will help make a batch of elderberry syrup using elderberries, spices, and honey. We’ll explore why berries must be cooked, basic food safety, and how homesteads traditionally created simple herbal preparations for winter health.

Week 6

📅 Monday 9th March | Friday 6th March

🐛 Garden Rescue Mission – Clearing Spent Summer Crops & Spotting Pests

As the summer garden winds down, children will learn how to identify pest damage, remove tired crops, and tidy the beds to reduce disease pressure. This hands-on cleanup prepares the garden for nutrient replenishment and a fresh winter planting cycle.

Week 7

📅 Monday 16th March | Friday 13th March

🌾 The Secret Life of Soil – Feeding & Fortifying Our Beds for Winter

Children will dig into the world beneath our feet, exploring soil layers, microbes, and the creatures that help plants grow. Together we will add compost, worm castings, natural fertilisers and mulch to rebuild soil health, ensuring rich, nutrient-dense beds for winter crops.

Week 8

📅 Monday 23rd March | Friday 20th March

🥒 Preserving Summer’s Bounty – Hands-On Pickling Session

Using fresh produce from our garden, children will chop, season, and create simple pickles to take home. We’ll discuss food preservation, reducing food waste, and how homesteads traditionally stored surplus produce at the end of summer.

Week 9 (Final Week)

📅 Monday 30th March | Friday 27th March

🔥 Winter Planting Celebration – Seedling Plant-Out and Fire Pit Fun

A joyful finish to the term! We will plant out the winter seedlings started in Week 3 into the freshly prepared garden beds. Afterwards, we’ll gather around the fire (weather permitting) to enjoy marshmallows and hot chocolate while reflecting on the garden we’ve created together.
