Holochain Hackathon

Bem Le Hunte is the author of several short stories and four novels.The Seduction of SilenceandThere, Where the Pepper Grows, have become number one bestsellers and been published internationally to critical acclaim. She is also an Associate Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, where she’s the founding Director of the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation, a transdisciplinary, future-facing degree that teaches creativity across 25 different disciplines and explores the porous boundaries between fields, disciplines and industries. She has a BA and MA in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University and a Creative Doctorate from the University of Sydney. Bem has also worked through three decades in the creative industries, and is currently researching creativity in education. Writing has always been her elemental passion, and the gift of this calling has allowed her to flourish in many ways and worlds – well beyond the written word.

Imagine a world where everyone can interact with no central power in the middle. Imagine a world where we can build a local and global sharing economy (cars, homes, tools, learning...), where everyone can play and contribute to the decisions, where we can build sustainable currencies, with no central authority that may sooner or later dictate the rules. Just imagine a world where we can design thriving economies. This world will run on distributed apps, or dApps. Open source, completely distributed, dApps allow direct peer-to-peer interactions and have incredible evolutionary capacities. 
<A HREF="http://holochain.org" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Holochain</A> enables a distributed web with user autonomy built directly into its architecture and protocols. Data allows the remembering of our lived and shared experiences. Distributing the storage and processing of that data will change how we coordinate and interact. With digital integration under user control, Holochain liberates our lives from corporate control over our choices and information.
Come along and learn how to design distributed apps with holochain, and develop the foundations for the next economy!

Information Session Friday, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
An introduction to holochain by <A STYLE="font-size: medium;" HREF="http://noubel.com" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jean-François Noubel</A> and the members of the holochain team. This will offer a cool space to make connections. Then for those who want, we will share a delicious dinner together in one of the restaurants around.
 
Hackathon Saturday 9:30am - 5:30pm Sunday 9:30am - 3pm

Presentations Sunday 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Teams present what they achieved and refelct on what they learned.

3 CREATIVE GROUPS
There will be parts that we all share together. Then we'll break into smaller groups with one of 3 themes:
 
Coders
 
For those who actually want a hands-on experience or have had a play with the Holochain code already. One of the core team members, David Meister leads this stream and will answer any questions around the actual code.
 
Business Analysists
 
Decentralised data can empower your users. It comes with its own challenges and requires a rethinking of how to keep private data private. Part of it is defining robust verification mechanisms. Every holochain comes with its own set of rules around who may participate and what constitutes a valid transaction. 
 
 
Designers
This is about solidifying ideas and turning them into user friendly dApp designs. Idea presentation, UI design and user testing are as much part of this stream as inspiring the other two streams about what to work on.

All the sessions are at Building 15, Room CB15.03.20 (The Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation space).
Best way is to enter through the door in Mary Ann Street next to the Frank Gehry Building.
