About this event

  • 3 hours

At Pottery, Painting and Play little people will, explore pottery techniques, painting skills and the natural world!

What the day looks like:

  • On arrival, children drraw on the chalk board and have bubble play while we get settled.
  • We then get into the clay and make a few small objects that will be bisque fired and ready for collection in 3-4 weeks.
  • Then its a bush walk around the safe grounds of the Studio and a picnic of fresh fruit.
  • Once we get back to the studio we will get art making using treasures we have collected on the walk to incorporate into painting and drawing.
  • Children will then spend the remainder of the session playing on the grass, trees and possibly in puddles, sunshine or rain!

What you get:

  • A safe environment that is inclusive of learning styles and neurodiversity's.
  • All materials and production including bisquefiring and care of ceramic work.
  • Fresh fruit and sunscreen and lots of fun.


Must do's:

  • We recommend preparing for all weather conditions when considering what clothes children should wear on the day!
  • Payment plans as well as NDIS invoicing is available.
  • Parents are welcome to get involved or drop off.
  • Please provide emergancy contacts.
  • Works can somtimes break in the kiln. This is unavoidable. Children and parents are encoraged to consider this a sensory class.
  • Children are welcome to bring snacks. Fresh fruit provided. Please advise of allergies.
  • booking a ticket means you have read the terms and conditions.
  • It is up to you to organis work collection. if you dont hear from the studio reach out. work will only be stored up to 6 weeks after it is fired.


The Palette & Kiln Studio Terms & Conditions:


1: You agree to label all work created by you and acknowledge that unlabelled work may not be available for collection.

2: You acknowledge that your work/creation/s may crack/break at any stage and that this is no fault of the Palette & Kiln Studio.

3: You acknowledge that clothing may become dirty/stained/torn during your time at The Palette & Kiln Studio.

4:You acknowledge that The Palette & Kiln studio is in a bush setting and consequential accidents, including but not limited to, falls, scrapes and/or animal/insect bites/stings/scratches, may occur at no fault of The Palette & Kiln Studio.

5: You acknowledge the risk of silicosis associated with clay dust particles that may be found at The Palette & Kiln Studio. It is up to you to wash hands and remove the apron before consuming food or drink and smoking.

6: You agree to arrange collection of finished works within 1 month of receiving notification of completion.

7: You acknowledge that if collection is not arranged within the time frame, your completed work may be recycled/used at the discretion of The Palette & Kiln Studio and therefore unavailable for collection.

8: You acknowledge that if minimum bookings are not met The Palette & Kiln Studio reserves the right to cancel classes.

9: You acknowledge that no shows/cancellations within 24hrs of upcoming workshop will not be refunded. In the event that a workshop is cancelled by The Palette & Kiln Studio a credit will be given unless a refund is requested within 48hrs. NDIS participants may still be invoiced if no show or cancelled by you within 24hrs of upcoming workshop. 

10: You agree that you and/or your work may be photographed and used in promotional material.

11: You acknowledge tools used at The Palette & Kiln Studio may not be appropriate for all participants but, unless arranged prior, may be accessible.

12: You agree to receive Emails from The Palette & Kiln Studio regarding studio updates and/or future workshops

13: You agree to inform The Palette & Kiln Studio of any relevant allergies, mobility restrictions, conditions and/or limitations.

14: You acknowledge The Palette & Kiln Studio does not have an ambulant bathroom and parts of the studio may not be wheelchair accessible.

The Palette & Kiln Studio is the home studio of artist Steph Shields. Steph has a background in community arts and education as well as a multidisciplinary practice including sculpture and installation.

Steph, along with other artists, run workshops that aim to provide upskilling and social engagement in a warm, stimulating and inclusive environment.
